KAssociate Professor Peter Kyobe Waiswa of the Makerere University School of Public Health (MakSPH) has been recognised among the university’s top researchers at the Vice-Chancellor’s Research Excellence Awards 2026.
The recognition was announced during Makerere University’s 76th graduation ceremony held at Freedom Square in Kampala.
According to the university, Assoc. Prof. Waiswa was honoured after publishing 43 peer-reviewed papers in 2025, placing him among the institution’s most productive researchers.
Prof. Waiswa is a health systems researcher whose work focuses on maternal, newborn and child health, particularly how health systems respond during critical stages such as childbirth, early life and community-level care.
His research has contributed to discussions on health equity, service delivery and health system performance across Africa.
The awards recognise outstanding research productivity and contributions to knowledge that address national and global development challenges.
